Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgan, Mohanlal
Music : Bappi Lahiri
Director: Ram Gopal Varma
Producer: Ram Gopal Varma
History :
To a certain extent, RAMGOPAL VARMA KI AAG does justice to those characters, especially Gabbar, who wore a sinister look on his face all the while. Well, Gabbar is history, now its Babban!
The original romance of Dharmendra-Hema Malini is portrayed as the Ajay Devgan-Nisha Kothari "jodi", which is not as the one to remember for in years
The story is about the dark underbelly of Mumbai city, where a cruel new leader has risen to rule the fetid underworld. His name is Babban (Amitabh Bachchan) who is a mean violent and the deadliest gangster the city has ever known.
Nobody has ever seen him and if they did, they didn't survive to tell the tale. But one man believed in his existence. Its inspector Narsimha (played by the South actor Mohanlal), who has a single-minded determination to finish Babban. .
One noteworthy sequence outside the courtroom of the Bachchan - Mohanlal face off is remarkable. Then its Bachchan act of avenging his brother's death by eliminating Mohanlal's family which is terrifying…Nobody has ever seen him and if they did, they didn't survive to tell the tale. But one man believed in his existence. Its inspector Narsimha (played by the South actor Mohanlal), who has a single-minded determination to finish Babban. .
Only highlight of the movie is the song 'Mehbooba', which is enacted by Urmilla Matondkar and Abhishek Bachchan's which actually bring the screen ablaze. The original Sholay had Helen and Jalal Agha doing the song. This song would be greeted by whistles from the audiences in the stalls. Urmila Matondkar is just sizzling…. And hot.
Excellent performance by Amitabh Bachchan as Babban, Mohanlal is excellent. He matches up to Bachchan in every sequence. Ajay Devgan is skilled while the newcomer Prashant Raj is pleasing and convincing. He stands up to the veterans and looks confident all through. Sushmita Sen is subdued in her role, while all marks to Nisha Kothari who plays the sometimes over chattering and irritating character. Sushant Singh is first-rate. Rajpal Yadav and Virendra Saxena are just okay. Rasika Joshi makes her presence felt. Sanjay Narvekar, Jeeva, Raju Mavani, Ravi Kale, J.D. Chekravarthy and Suchitra Krishnamoorthi are apt in their roles.
